Every year we get new DP1 students, and they never fail to surprise us with their high quality, fun, useful and heartwarming projects. This is a selection of the few ones that have been carried out so far:

- KJJG TEDx event. This is already our students’ tradition to organize this event, but every member starts working in this project with such enthusiasm but we can’t help but admire their creativity and effort. This year’s project leaders were Markas Jasevičius, Elena Segalovičiūtė, Viltė Mickevičiūtė and Ieva Astrauskaitė. Markas reflects: “We hoped to make this year’s even the best one yet, providing a platform for individuals to express meaningful and relevant ideas, while also creating an engaging and positive experience for both the speakers
and the audience.”

- Skateboards for children. This meaningful project was initiated by Gertrūda Kudirkaitė and Mėta Žebelytė. They took old skateboards, renewed them by hand and gifted them to the local children’s care centre. Gertrūda says, “I had the best time at the daycare center and everyone there were really warm and welcoming. This visit really reminded me how much I have. At the same time, it showed how little sometimes is needed to bring happiness to other people. I would say that this experience gave me a chance to improve IB learner profile attributes such as being open-minded and caring.”
- Musical “4.62 l dūmų”. This was a project led by Feliksas Drevinskas – Noras. The preventive postmodern musical, created by Feliksas, explored challenges faced by today’s youth, including emotional well-being, social pressure, difficult choices and the risks of addiction. The musical combined art and psychology to encourage open discussion about young people’s real-life experiences.
- Donation campaign. Organized by Julijus Chaziachmetovas it was a donation campaign for a local cat shelter. After the two week period in which the campaign was active Julijus and his classmate Ieva Puidokaitė delivered the supplies collected to the shelter. Julijus reflects: “My goal was to help foster animals and raise awareness about animal abuse and welfare within my school. It was successful because we collected a lot of stuff.”
- Art project “The melting” ‘’Birth by Inequality’’. Led by Liepa Matiušovaitė, this art project looked into various global issues and then young artistic people created an art piece based on them. Liepa and her friend decided to involve the ceramics community into the project by crafting an anonymous google forms questionnaire titled “What, in your opinion, is the most important global issue in the world today?”. When they gathered a fair amount of responses, they saw that the problems had mostly to do with climate change, pollution and socio-economic inequality. And so the art piece was born and presented to the public. Liepa says, “We elaborated on our idea that climate change and pollution exist, making global problems worse. The core root of it, sadly, is the human ego that not even gigantic melting icebergs can move. With Earth being destroyed there is no certainty that the harmonic relationship between humans and nature will endure or cease to exist. The ‘’Birth by Inequality’’ piece also has a lot of food for thought. It makes us realize how luck is either with us or not right from the start of our life. This can be challenged and enforced by society. Best way to push for change is to spread awareness in as many spaces as possible.”
